Kansas City Chiefs news surrounds free agency taking place and how the Chiefs have actually brought in several free agents to join their 2018 team.
The last few seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have been strapped for cash and haven’t really been able to be big players in free agency as a result. This offseason has been the total opposite, as the Chiefs have been one of the biggest participants in free agency.
The first big name to join Kansas City was wide receiver Sammy Watkins and he was followed by linebacker Anthony Hitchens. Since then, the Chiefs have brought on Damien Williams at running back and were in the works to sign tight end Ben Watson though nothing has come about regarding the latter.
Many fans figured this offseason would be about getting defensive help, but it’s been anything but that. Obviously Hitchens will help shore up the absence of Derrick Johnson, but otherwise, it’s been all offensive acquisitions.

This shows that the Chiefs care about giving Patrick Mahomes all of the help he can get. It’ll be the first time since 1983 that they’ve built their team around their first round quarterback and Brett Veach wants to make sure he gets it right. A lot of pressure for a still new to the scene general manager.

"It’ll be tricky to get top notch talent in this draft, as the Chiefs aren’t on the clock until the 54th pick of the draft. They have no first round pick and it’s unlikely that they’ll trade up to get into round number one."

"Adding Wright to the mix might seem like an embarrassment of riches, and yet the Chiefs do have some question marks at the position."

Kansas City Chiefs reach deal with RB Damien Williams [Adam Teicher, ESPN.com]
It’s been fun to see the Kansas City Chiefs get involved in free agency, but the lack of defensive signings has been a bit surprising. Obviously Veach and company expect the Chiefs to have an explosive offense this season and that be their bread and butter.
Perhaps the Chiefs will go defensive heavy in the draft, which would make sense. If they’re going to be a young defensive team, why not start from scratch?
The draft is coming up in less than a month now and that’ll soon take over as the next big story for the Chiefs, but until then, it’s all about free agency.
