Wildcats are one of two teams remaining in the South region.

The South region has been insane. Absolutely insane. None of the top four seeds advanced past the first weekend. It has been the region of upsets in 2018. The Wildcats have been the lone bad guys throughout.

If it wasn’t for teams such as UMBC and Loyola, the Wildcats might have been considered somewhat of a Cinderella team themselves, as far as seeding goes. In fact, the Elite Eight match between a nine and an eleven seed is the first time in tournament history. Lots of firsts in the South region.

UMBC became the first No.16 seed to defeat a No.1 seed in history. Not only did that happen, but they beat the overall number one seed in the tournament. Not only that, but they beat Virginia by 20 points.

The No.4 seed Arizona was picked by many to advance to the Final Four. They lasted just a couple of hours as Buffalo beat them in the round of 64 by 21 points. This March has been mad. Loyola and Kansas State were both higher seeds to advance.

In the round of 32 Loyola defeated No.3 seed Tennessee by a single point and Nevada outlasted No.2 seed Cincinnati. Kentucky won easily against Buffalo and the Wildcats ended UMBC’s historic run at one game.

The Sweet Sixteen stayed the course as Kansas State defeated the No.5 seed Kentucky by three points. Not to be outdone, Loyola defeated No.7 seed Nevada by one point.

No matter who wins on Saturday, their opponent in the Final Four should take heed.
