The Kansas City Chiefs are apparently in the mix to land Tyrann Mathieu. The possible duo of himself and Eric Berry should have fans foaming at the mouth.

At 8:28 pm on Thursday night a single tweet came across the screen of my phone hinting at the possibility of Tyrann Mathieu and the Kansas City Chiefs working on a possible deal. That single tweet has Chiefs fans unable to sleep, or function at their job. It’s tweets like that which make husbands and fathers fail at their duties.

Known by most as “the honey badger”, Mathieu is considered an elite safety. The Chiefs also have an elite safety in Eric Berry. The buzz just feels right here, that this could actually happen, and if it does, the Chiefs would have to be a favorite next season. Favorite you say? I say. Mathieu and Berry would be an impossible test for most quarterbacks and teams that are out there.

More from KC Kingdom

He is only 25 years old. Although some question taking him because he had a down year last year, the kid is only 25. By the way, his down year consisted of 66 tackles, a forced fumble, and two interceptions.

If the Chiefs could manage to get this deal done it would make the safety duo of Berry and Badger the best in the NFL. Throw Kendall Fuller in the mix and the secondary is all of a sudden golden. More golden than last season, or the one before it. Fuller may be the best secondary player between the three, and if that suggestion is even close to accurate, the Chiefs secondary will be deadly.

The concern of course would be the injured list. Between both Berry and Badger they have seen the injured reserve list five times due to football injuries. However, when they are on the field, they not only play at the highest level, they receive the respect of opposing quarterbacks. Mathieu was ranked 28th on the NFL Top 100 in 2016. Again, he is 25 years old.

The last couple of years it has been somewhat easy to disappear in Arizona, but make no mistake about it, he can play football better than most.

Eric Berry returning to the Chiefs in 2018 will be as big of a deal to Kansas City as any move Brett Veach and the Chiefs make this offseason.

If the smoke is real, and this does happen, the defense can actually afford to have some holes. Remember, the Chiefs had plenty of holes on defense this past season, and won the division for the second year in a row.
