There is a common misconception that Bill Self and Kansas Basketball isn’t that successful in the men’s NCAA basketball tournament. A closer look may change your mind.

Bill Self is a Choke artist. Bill Self can’t win the games that matter. Remember Bradley and Bucknell? Sure, they win during the season, but Self has no idea how to get his team ready. If you are a fan of Kansas Basketball, you have heard all of the above on more than one occasion.

Of course the losses to Bradley and Bucknell still sting a little. Those were pretty talented teams Kansas had in ’05 and ’06. Other than those two losses, Bill Self deserves a break. WE all remember the losses to Stanford, Northern Iowa and Wichita State too. When does too much become too much?

Has there ever been a coach that won everything every year? Don’t google it, I promise the answer is no. Understandably, as fans of such a prestigious program like Kansas you want to see hardware being won from time to time. Hardware that doesn’t include 14 straight conference titles. Bill Self is such garbage, am I right? The man has been to the Elite Eight 50% of the time.

Bill Self would be and probably is the most sought after coach in college basketball. You just don’t know it because he already has the best basketball coaching job to be had.

Since 2010 the Jayhawks have the fourth most wins in the big dance. Behind Duke with 20, North Carolina with 21 and Kentucky with 26. If you dive a little further into the statistic cesspool you will find that Bill Self has more wins in the round of 32 than any of those schools with eight. Only Florida and Kentucky have more wins in the Elite Eight.

Since Kentucky takes the lead as of late being a tournament and national powerhouse, let’s remember that Kentucky missed the whole dang thing in 2013. Then went on to lose in the first round of the NIT. That can be considered a bad year by all accounts. Bill Self has not had a bad year since arriving at Kansas. This year was considered a bad year for Kansas, which happens to have the 1 seed in the Midwest.

See where this is going yet? Pay no attention to the 29 straight tournament appearances that leads the nation. Pay no attention to the fact that Kansas has been ranked in more consecutive weeks than any other school. Don’t mind the fact that Kansas has won its conference every year my 14-year-old daughter has been alive.

The next time someone says Bill Self doesn’t win in the tournament, let them know about themselves. Each year there are 63 head coaches that lose a tournament game, each year there are 32 coaches that don’t manage to win a single tournament game. Only 16 coaches win two games each tournament. I won’t digress any longer.
