Kansas Basketball has plenty of hardware. Devonte’ Graham was among the big winners with Big 12 Player of the Year, one year after Frank Mason won it.
The times have been real good to Kansas Basketball. Season after season the Jayhawks obtain more jewelry, plaques, medals and awards than any team in the conference. This season proved to be no different as multiple players and a certain coach got theirs.
Bill Self sure knows how to win. He also knows who to win with. In the Big 12’s existence, Kansas leads with 116 All-Conference selections. Bill Self himself brought home some hardware. This was his eighth conference coach of the year award.
Devonte’ Graham became the 12th Jayhawk to be named Big 12 Player of the Year giving the Jayhawks back to back awards, with Frank Mason winning the award last season. Graham was a unanimous selection.

Malik Newman won Newcomer of the Year, becoming the ninth Jayhawk to win the award.
Svi Mykhailiuk made the All-Big 12 2nd team, Udoka Azubuike made the All-Big 12 3rd team. Lagerald Vick received honorable mention.
Don’t forget that the Jayhawks are Big 12 champs as well for a record 14th straight season. Kansas had many ups and many downs this season, but in the end they prevailed to not only keep the streak alive but stay prominent.
Graham joins fellow Jayhawks Thomas Robinson, Marcus Morris, Nick Collison, Wayne Simien, Drew Gooden and Raef LaFrentz as Big 12 players of the year. Other Jayhawks to win the award include Jacque Vaughn, Bud Stallworth, Dave Robisch, and Danny Manning, who won the award three times.
Svi and his three-point shot settled himself nicely among the 2nd team. He ranks second in the Big 12 in 3-point field goal percentage and 3rd in 3-point field goals made. Azubuike leads the nation in field goal percentage, which some could argue deserves better than a 3rd team acknowledgement.
Newman joins former Jayhawks Jerod Haase, Jacque Vaughn, Rex Walters, Rick Calloway, Danny Manning, Darnell Valentine, John Douglas and Vernon Vanoy as Kansas’ conference newcomers of the year.
Self Passed Roy Williams with his eighth conference coach of the year award.
