There are lots of unknowns and lots of questions for the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. Lost in the fog is the eventual return of running back, Spencer Ware.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had an eventful offseason so far, to say the least. The departures of Alex Smith and Marcus Peters leave significant unknowns, no matter what the Chiefs did or did not get in return.

Lost in the chaos, and virtually not talked about by anyone, is Spencer Ware. Ware has been lost in the eyes and memories of fans and media moguls not only this offseason, but during the season as well. His return could mean something very special for the Chiefs in 2018.

Spencer Ware was a shining light when Jamaal Charles went down. In 2016 Ware was named the starter as Charles recovered from a knee injury. Ware rushed for 921 yards, caught 33 passes for 447 yards, and scored five total touchdowns.

Projected to remain the starter in 2017, he tore his PCL and was placed on injured reserve, which may have been a blessing in disguise. Enter Kareem Hunt. Hunt started every game in 2017 and led the league in rushing during his rookie year. A once very thin running back group is now all of  sudden stacked.

Ware may not be the flashy back that makes SportsCenter every Sunday, and he may not be the guy that has the mind-boggling numbers each year. He may not be great at any aspect, but he is pretty good in every aspect.

Now combine his running style and arsenal to that of Hunt and fellow running back Charcandrick West. The Chiefs will have a three-headed monster at the position, giving new quarterback Patrick Mahomes an endless amount of weapons at his side.

Kansas City will be able to rotate running backs with reckless abandon. Which should make things very tough for opposing defensive front sevens. Especially since each back comes with his own set of skills. The comparisons between him and Hunt are not too far off.

Each of the three backs can catch the ball, giving a potential amount of offensive packages and plays that defenses will struggle with. Ware is a bruising back with great hands and enough speed to get to the outside. He is hard to take down one on one, his strength and ability to take a hit makes him a brute force.

The knock and Ware has always been the notion that he isn’t the guy you want touching the ball 20 times a game. That role now belongs to Hunt. This means that Ware and West can come in and compliment Hunt with their own play-making abilities.

Ware gives the offense another outstanding option. With Ware back, the running game, along with the respect that will come with Mahomes abilities at quarterback, means defenses will not be able to lean one way or the other. This means defenses should be playing on their heels.

Look for Ware to make an impact in 2018. Do not forget what he can do.
