Kansas City Royals News: Lucas Duda and rebuild plans
Kansas City Royals news is about the team signing Lucas Duda to a one-year deal and also about what the Royals plan to do as far as rebuilding goes.
Just a few weeks ago, Eric Hosmer was the Kansas City Royals‘ plan at first base for the next however many years. Well, Hosmer chose to be San Diego’s first baseman of the future, and the Royals were left thinking Hunter Dozier was the solution.
Not even two weeks after Hosmer inked an eight-year deal with the Padres, the Royals signed Lucas Duda to be their first baseman for the 2018 season. Duda isn’t a bad player by any means, but the decision to bring someone on was a little surprising considering the plan appeared to be rebuild, rebuild, rebuild.
If the Royals are rebuilding, then why is Duda now a Royal? Seems like unnecessary money to be spending, but the same could be said for Alcides Escobar I guess (though he’s been a member of this team for a long time and has ties to Royals history).

Before, first base was a question mark, but Duda will more than likely be the main man there now. Having Duda might make fans more comfortable with first base (not many of us were jumping for joy over the thought of Dozier being there full-time), but is it really worth a few more wins? I guess we’ll find out.

"Dayton Moore knows (perhaps better than any other GM in a small market) how important it is to have a stream of players from your own system ready to take the field, but more importantly, that they take the field together."

"It wasn’t the prettiest of performances but overall, the W is all that matters. Some great pitching and timely hitting came through when needed the most and the Royals avoided their first loss of the spring again."

In a season where we thought it’d be shifting guys all throughout the diamond and learning new positions, first base apparently won’t be grouped in with that. Maybe this means the Royals like how Nick Pratto is developing and he could get a super-early call-up, or maybe it was just to bring in insurance in case Hunter Dozier stinks at first base.
Whatever it is, hopefully Duda can perform well and this won’t seem like such an odd signing at the end of the season.
