KC Chiefs new is obviously about the Marcus Peters trade that has Chiefs Kingdom divided. Also, is a rebuild in the works for the Chiefs?

This time last year we all expected the Kansas City Chiefs to be Super Bowl contenders heading into 2017. They exceeded expectations early on, going 5-0 to start the year, but cooled off tremendously in the middle of the season.

One of the biggest names during the 2017 season was Marcus Peters, who was involved in all kinds of controversies throughout the season. While Peters didn’t personally offend me, I understood why some of his antics rubbed people the wrong way.

Throwing a flag into the stands was stupid and got him ejected in a close game, which hurt the Chiefs in the end. When he was suspended the next week for those actions, the Chiefs actually played fine against the Raiders. Could that be a sign of what’s to come?

Well, now that Peters is gone, the Chiefs have to look at new options for their secondary. They also released Ron Parker, which opens up a safety spot for them as well. The Chiefs are getting younger on defense, but trading their 25-year old All-Pro cornerback away is a puzzling decision considering he IS young and one of the best performers on that side of the ball.

"But maybe… just maybe this deal was never supposed to make sense from a football perspective. Maybe this deal wasn’t made with production on the field taken into account. After all, how could it have been?"

The Marcus Peters trade is how the Chiefs are admitting failure [Kody Latham, Arrowhead Addict]

"This is a slap in the face of the fan base, this compensation is nowhere near enough for the value that Peters is. Looking at what the compensation is means that Chiefs were doing all they could to offload him and it did not really matter what the return was in the end."

2018 is officially a rebuilding year [Leigh Oleszczak, KC Kingdom]

"So, when looking ahead to what the 2018 season has in store, don’t expect too much. If the Chiefs can go 8-8, that’d be a decent season in my eyes. They’re going to have to put up insane offensive stats in order to win games this year because I really don’t see the defense being all that effective."

Well, what’s done is done. Marcus Peters is now a member of the Los Angeles Rams, and the Kansas City Chiefs have one pissed off fan base to deal with.

The most frustrating part of all of this is that the Chiefs didn’t HAVE to make this trade. Only the Rams were interested in trading for Peters yet the Chiefs took a bottom of the barrel trade just to get him off their hands.

We’re still unsure as to what caused all of this, but people have their assumptions. Some think the anthem protests had something to do with it. Some think Peters’ on the field shenanigans reached a boiling point with the front office. Others think Peters wanted to sign long-term with a team on the west coast and the Chiefs had no shot at retaining him in a few years.

Whatever the reason was, a real answer would be nice, but I’m not holding my breath on that one. We still don’t know what the real deal was behind cutting Jeremy Maclin or firing John Dorsey was.
