The Kansas City Chiefs have definitely made waves this off-season. The apparent trade of Marcus Peters to the Rams has caused fans to question everything.
When the news broke, I had just released a satire piece stating that the Kansas City Chiefs should trade away Travis Kelce. The point of the story was to make fun of all of the Marcus Peters trade talk. I, along everyone else with a voice and a pair of thumbs thought the idea of trading Peters was insane. Then Peters was traded. Not only was he traded, but there was no information available to what the Chiefs got in return. Chaos.
Chiefs media and fans alike were left in limbo. What on earth did the Chiefs just do? Why did they do it? What is going to be the haul? Day after day no credible news came across the wire.
Then it did. Chiefs fans everywhere went ballistic. Even the fans that had an issue with Peters and wanted him gone were upset that the return was simply embarrassing. At the moment at least.

Social media was flooded with hot takes and tweets not safe for work. Not only did Kansas City give the Los Angeles Rams Marcus Peters, a potential Hall of Fame corner, they also gave away a sixth round pick. In return, the Chiefs received a fourth round pick this year and a second round pick next season. That’s it.
So what happened?
This is a question that more than likely will never be answered. Marcus Peters appeared on NFL Network and said it was just business. He mentioned he loved Andy Reid, appreciated Kansas City for the opportunity, doesn’t like the Alex Smith trade, and suggests he’s going to make life hell on Patrick Mahomes, pretty much in a disrespectful manner.
We all know he refused to stand for the anthem, which was an unpopular move across the NFL this past season. We all know he’s a “guy from the streets”. Millions of people saw him throw the penalty flag into the stands. He served his suspension and came back playing his best ball.
He might have been different from you or I, but the kid played better than any corner we’ve seen in a Chiefs uniform for quite some time. His team mates loved him. So through the process of elimination, it had to be between himself and Chiefs brass.
My goodness we were so wrong. Wrong about the trade, wrong about the compensation, wrong about everything.
It goes to show that even the unthinkable can happen when those “in the know” can be dead wrong.
What’s next
Truth be told, nobody knows how good or bad this trade is going to be until we have a chance to see what Brett Veach does with these draft picks. Not just the draft picks but the work he does in free agency.
Life goes on. The Chiefs will still play football games next season. With or without Peters, Patrick Mahomes is now the quarterback, it is worth tuning in.
One positive to remember, the Chiefs did pretty good this past season without Eric Berry. This circumstance allows the Chiefs to fill that role left by Peters through the draft and free agency. That was not an option when Berry went down.
