Two days ago Kansas Basketball completed the mission of 14 straight conference titles. On senior night, they won it outright.

Kansas Basketball have proven all the doubters wrong. As if there was a chip on their shoulder, the Jayhawks saved their best for last. Behind seniors Devonte’ Graham and Svi Mykhailiuk, Kansas made history as they remain the champions of the Big 12. As the sun rises in the East, the Jayhawks win their conference.

Much to the dismay of the Texas Longhorns, the schedule played out to visit Kansas on senior night. On a night the Jayhawks got the opportunity to win the 14th outright in front of their amazing fans in Allen Fieldhouse.

1st half

As was the case all season, the seniors led the way. Graham had eight points and seven assists at the half, Svi had a game high 14 points. The way they got their was extremely impressive. Graham put on a show with his ball control, ball movement, and of course, his shooting. Svi made the game of basketball look easy. He possibly has the sweetest three-point shot Kansas has seen in a long while, and that’s saying something.

Texas came to Lawrence short-handed. Notably, Mo Bamba did not make the trip. He dominated the Jayhawks inside during their first meeting in Austin. The Longhorns played their hearts out for head coach Shaka Smart. The kids at Texas never gave up, making it a game for maybe longer than some thought. This night however, belonged to the Jayhawks.

Malik Newman had himself a highlight reel of a game. A baseline slam dunk perhaps making the top 10 on SportsCenter. Udoka Azubuike was a monster inside. With no Bamba down low for Texas, Udoka was able to bully his way down by the basket at will.

2nd half

Every Jayhawk played a role in the final home game of the season. Neither Graham or Svi scored a single point during the first ten minutes of the half. The Jayhawks still hovered around a ten point lead.

Udoka was perfect until just over seven minutes remained. Before his first miss he was 10-10 with 20 points.

Kansas got sloppy as the game grew old, turnovers mounted, passes got to be careless, but the Jayhawks did exactly what they had to do to keep the score comfortable. Texas made their runs, but each time the Jayhawks had an answer.

Udoka led all Kansas scorers with 20 points. Svi finished his home career with 18, Graham finished with a double-double, 10 points, 11 assists. Marcus Garrett added 11 off the bench.

Kansas has won 34 straight games on senior night.

A historic run

Not enough can be said about what the Jayhawks have accomplished. The streak has become a staple in Lawrence, Kansas. Bill Self has continued to impress and continues to reward the fans for their energy.

Jayhawks fans have been spoiled since Self arrived 15 years ago. The Big 12 is far away from a cupcake league and there is no other way to put it. Bill Self and his Kansas Jayhawks dominate, with ruthless abandon. No matter who is on the court, or the bench. No matter how good the opponents may be and no matter how great their players are, Kansas prevails year in and year out.

Bill Self is nothing short of a miracle worker. Kansas stands alone as Big 12 champs.
