If Texas Tech loses on Wednesday in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Kansas Basketball can clinch a share of the title for their 14th straight season with a win Saturday.

The chances of that if may be slim, so it could be a big if, but to think that Kansas Basketball is on the verge of collecting a record 14 straight titles after being dead to all rights is somewhat unbelievable.

All eyes will be on the game Wednesday night when Texas Tech takes on Oklahoma State on the road. The Red Raiders have been the most consistent team all season in the Big 12, so to suggest that they will lose this game is a bit asinine. But what if?

If the Cowboys find a way to beat Tech, Kansas will have a game advantage over the Red Raiders when they meet on Saturday. Should Kansas keep the momentum going, the Jayhawks can seal the deal with a win for at least a share of the conference title. The Jayhawks just happen to be playing their best basketball of the season during the most crucial stretch.

More from KC Kingdom

There are multiple reasons to feel good about Kansas’ chances either way. Even if Tech wins in Stillwater, the Jayhawks have every reason to come in to Lubbock with a chip on their shoulder. Tech embarrassed Kansas earlier in the season at Allen Fieldhouse. Self has never been swept in conference play.

Experience may be a secret weapon for the Jayhawks, as they’ve been in this position before. It’s a rare instance that the Red Raiders find themselves in this spot. One thing is for certain, if Kansas plays like they did against the Sooners there isn’t a team that can beat them. That was as perfect a game can be played against a questionably quality opponent.

No matter what happens to the Jayhawks in post-season play, if they can pull off their 14th straight, this will be one the most memorable seasons in Kansas’ historic existence. Fans have been waiting for a game like the one against Oklahoma, and truth be told, most of us didn’t believe this team was capable. On behalf of Kansas fans everywhere, we apologize.

This team has been underestimated all year. If the Jayhawks are struggling and having an “off-year” I can only imagine each and every team in the nation would kill for an “off year” like Kansas is having.

The last three halves of basketball has been a trifecta of brilliant execution. The inside-out game is alive and well. The bench is contributing unlike any moment this season. Kansas is shooting lights out, rebounding with authority, and Lawrence is thinking about changing their name to Lob City.

Silvio De Sousa finally showed us what all the hype was about, and if he can stay consistent, it changes the game plan Self has had to settle with all season.

As of right now, all the pressure is on Texas Tech. Kansas is flowing, Tech is coming off a loss to Baylor that put Kansas in this spot to begin with. It will most likely be a coaching point this week for Tech, do not look past the Cowboys, which is now the trap game of all trap games.

For one night, all Jayhawks fans will be rooting for the kids wearing burnt orange, count on it. Again, a Tech loss gives an opportunity for Kansas to solidify its place in the record books. Kansas is on a mission, and at the moment they don’t care who is in their way.
