Kansas City Chiefs News: Trading Marcus Peters and cornerback depth
Kansas City Chiefs news pertains to the discussions of Marcus Peters being on the trade block and about the Chiefs cornerback depth.
When the Kansas City Chiefs added two cornerbacks via trade and free agency this offseason, it really kicked the “Marcus Peters is getting traded” talk into full swing. Whether you’re pro Peters being traded or against Peters being sent elsewhere, the talk is out there, and it’s not going anywhere until he signs an extension in Kansas City or does indeed get traded.
Before we get into all of that, let’s dive into the Chiefs’ current situation. A few weeks ago, the Chiefs sent quarterback Alex Smith to Washington in exchange for cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third round draft pick.
Fuller was highly thought of in D.C. last season and could instantly provide the Chiefs with a number two cornerback. That’s huge for a team who struggled to find consistency opposite Marcus Peters a season ago.
On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs inked David Amerson to a one-year “prove it” deal. Amerson previously played with Washington and Oakland, but had a rough 2017 with the Raiders, leading to his release from the team.
Acquiring both of these guys has made people question what the Chiefs’ motives are. Is it possible that they’re planning for a potential Peters trade/departure or are they simply just building up depth?

"Brett Veach knows the Kansas City Chiefs have to get better in the secondary and he’s already making strides to do so. Fuller was the first acquisition and now Amerson is just another depth piece to throw in there."
"A lot of teams would be interested in having a corner like Marcus Peters and the Chiefs could use that to their advantage. Yes, it’d mean they’d no longer have that solid corner on one side of the field, but this team probably isn’t contending in 2018 and possibly not in 2019 either."
"Marcus Peters is not going anywhere. Ever. Not in 2018, not in 2028, not in 2038 when teams are offering Joe Montana, Jr. in trade talks."

It’s certainly a bold statement to say that the Kansas City Chiefs would trade Marcus Peters, but I see it from both sides. He’s obviously a great cornerback and teams covet that. Why trade that away?
On the other hand, Peters has never seemed to have a lot of pride for the team that drafted him. He’s a big Oakland guy, being from there and all, and it wouldn’t shock me to see him play for the Raiders someday (even though they’re moving to Las Vegas in a few years).
Peters just recently changed his profile picture on Twitter of him in a Chiefs uniform. Before that, he was still donning Washington Huskies gear, which was odd considering they kicked him off the team before the end of the 2014 season. There was never any mention of Peters being with the Chiefs on his social media before recently and that always frightened me as far as his future with the Chiefs went.
What do you think, Chiefs fans? Is acquiring Kendall Fuller and David Amerson a sign that the Chiefs could trade Peters or is to add as much depth as possible?
