Well, there you have it. Our third installment of our 2018 NFL Mock Draft series and this was the first one in which the Chiefs drafted a quarterback.

Sure, the KC Chiefs won’t be going after the big name quarterback prospects like they were a year ago, but that’s a good thing! The Chiefs have a good situation at the signal caller spot and whoever they select in the draft (if they do select anyone) would be for depth purposes only.

Riley Ferguson is someone who doesn’t have to come in and light it up because his role, at least in year one, would probably be as a third stringer. He could sit behind both Mahomes and whoever the veteran backup is (assuming that’s what happens) and then become the number two option once that vet’s contract is up.

As for the rest of the draft, the Kansas City Chiefs had no choice but to focus on defense early in the draft. They took three straight defensive players to kick things off, but then switched gears and grabbed some offensive weapons for Patrick Mahomes.

Out of three drafts I’ve done so far, this one is the best. The first three picks could come in and make some serious noise with the team while guys like Mike Gesicki and J’Mon Moore could easily contribute on offense as well.

No, the backup quarterback spot, which was the theme around this mock draft, isn’t a flashy one, but it’s an important one for sure. Riley Ferguson fits in perfectly with what the Chiefs are looking for at that position.

What did you think of this mock draft, Chiefs fans? Do you think the Chiefs should draft a quarterback this year or are there other positions that you feel are more important to address?
