The Kansas City Chiefs have already been active this off-season. By the start of the 2018 season the Chiefs should look quite different and perform quite better.

Time will tell, but the optimism I have for the 2018 season is warranted. There are those that believe the Kansas City Chiefs will drop a bit in Patrick Mahomes first season with the Chiefs, but those people may not be taking the overall picture into account.

Yes, Alex Smith is gone. Yes, Matt Nagy and Brad Childress are both gone as well. No, Bob Sutton didn’t leave. There will be other departures this off-season, no doubt. There will be additions too.

Without going into detail about what may or may not take place, I want to stay within the realm of actuality. The Chiefs have been dormant for too long. Some fans have actually expressed their desire to just stay relevant, while most agree it is time for the Chiefs to take that next step. Brett Veach seems to be agreeing with the latter.

It’s a nice gesture really. Although it can be very dangerous to listen too much to your fan base, it shouldn’t hurt to listen to the soundbites if you’re Veach. Chiefs fans want more. They’re about to get it.

More doesn’t equal Super Bowl rings, but it places the Chiefs in a category where they should be in contention. Kansas City is close, and with the right moves the Chiefs can be exactly where the Eagles are now, without the mass chaos afterward.
