Kansas City Chiefs should attempt something different with jerseys

The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the more traditional jerseys in the entire NFL and it doesn’t look like that will be changing any time soon. Maybe it’s time for a change though.

The Kansas City Chiefs have always been pretty traditional with their uniforms and the attire really hasn’t changed much in the franchise’s existence. Mark Donovan told the media earlier this week that there won’t be any changes with the jerseys any time soon, but it’d be nice to see the Chiefs do something differently for once.

Donovan stated,

"“No. I’m sure Nike will come for us at the league meetings and say we should do something crazy. If history holds true with the Hunt family, I’m not going to see any changes, nor would I argue for them by the way. I think one of the things that make our brand equity not unique, but valuable, is that we’re one of the very few that stick to that tradition and honor that tradition.”"

Chiefs Kingdom was fired up when the team announced they’d be wearing red-on-red for the first time in franchise history back in 2013 for the home opener. The Chiefs had never wore the red tops with the red pants before, so it was exciting!

There was no new piece to the uniform though, just a red jersey and red pants, which also ended up being the team’s Color Rush uniform in both 2016 and 2017. That part was disappointing, as it would have been nice to see the Chiefs wear something new.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Some fans might like the traditional attire that the Chiefs don every week, but I’d like to see something different, even if just for a game. Most people mock the whole “Color Rush” thing, but some teams really got creative with it and did something cool with their uniforms.

The Chiefs wore their every day uniforms and that was a chance to really brand themselves a bit better. Even the Packers, another team with traditional jerseys, designed something new for the Thursday night games!

I’m not asking for the team to design something ridiculous like bright yellow jerseys, but maybe a different design or something would be nice. Perhaps part of the reason why no Chiefs made the top 30 in jersey sales is that the Chiefs uniforms are boring to the outside (and inside) fan.

While the Hunt family is clearly set in their ways, it’d be nice to see the Chiefs wear something different for once. In 2009, they wore the throwback Dallas Texans helmets, but that’s about as “outside the box” as the organization has been with their uniforms.

With the President of the team saying there won’t be any changes in the near future, I’m not going to hold my breath for anything new from the team, but we can still dream, right? Do you care at all, Chiefs fans or do you like the traditional look that the Chiefs wear every week?
