The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t the most branded organization and tend to be one of the “forgotten” teams, despite their recent success. That was indicated by the lack of Chiefs in the top 30 of NFL jersey sales.

Okay, look. It’s the offseason. That means you’re going to get stories like this regarding the Kansas City Chiefs and for that, I’m sorry. We all hate the offseason and wish football could go on all year round (speaking of which, when is the XFL coming back?).

The latest bit of depressing KC Chiefs news is that no member of the team landed in the top 30 of NFL jersey sales, according to NFL.com. The top ten were as follows:

  1. Carson Wentz (Eagles)
  2. Tom Brady (Patriots)
  3. Dak Prescott (Cowboys)
  4. Antonio Brown (Steelers)
  5. Ezekiel Elliott (Cowboys)
  6. Aaron Rodgers (Packers)
  7. Alejandro Villanueva (Steelers)
  8. Rob Gronkowski (Patriots)
  9. Adam Thielen (Vikings)
  10. Russell Wilson (Seahawks)

The only real surprises on there were Villanueva and Thielen. Villanueva is an offensive tackle, but him standing for the National Anthem when the rest of the Steelers opted to remain in the locker room really touched a lot of people. Not sure why Thielen’s so high up, but good for him I guess.

The rest aren’t surprising in the least bit. Quarterback jerseys are always going to be the most popular, especially from the “national” teams like the Cowboys, Packers, and Steelers. I didn’t expect any member of the Chiefs to land in the top ten (I mean, look at those names), but not a single player in the top 30? Really?

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The most well-known Chiefs would easily be Tyreek Hill, Kareem HuntTravis Kelce, and Marcus Peters, all of whom are household names at this point in their careers. Personally, I do own a Kelce jersey (it’s an away one) and I plan to buy a Patrick Mahomes jersey next season.

I’ve been waiting on the Mahomes purchase just because I want to see if he changes back to his college jersey number of five (he currently wears number 15). This is riveting stuff, I know.

Speaking of Mahomes, perhaps if he has a tremendous season he can be on this list next year. Both quarterbacks taken around him in the draft are in the top 30 (Deshaun Watson is 20th and Mitchell Trubisky is 28th). Mahomes has the ability to become one of the most electric players in the league next year, so hopefully he can be that Chief whose jersey gets bought around the country.

At the end of the day, does anyone really care about this? I mean, I do, but it’s not like it’s keeping me from sleeping at night. I am surprised, however, that a team like the Kansas City Chiefs who have been a playoff team in four of the last five years doesn’t have one single player in the top 30 for NFL jersey sales. It’s just a bit surprising is all, given their recent success.

I guess the fact that the KC Chiefs haven’t won a home playoff game since the 1993 season could be a big reason as to why people aren’t supporting the team and buying jerseys, but even teams like the Lions have someone on the list. The Lions have one of the longest playoff droughts in the league (and that player hasn’t won a playoff game)! What gives, man?

So, Chiefs fans, we have to make it our goal this offseason to buy as many jerseys as possible. We can’t have members of the Broncos and Raiders be on a list and no Chiefs be included! That’s so not cool. Go run to NFLShop.com and buy as many Chiefs jerseys as possible. DO IT FOR YOUR TEAM.
