Kansas Basketball: Watch new 2018 recruit Ochai Agbaji impress
By Chris Taylor
It is getting to be very exciting to think about what Kansas Basketball can accomplish next season. The addition of Ochai Agbaji is icing on the cake.
In case you haven’t heard, the recruiting class of 2018 may be the best in Kansas Basketball history. This was before the recent commitment from local flavor Ochai Agbaji. Agbaji is a senior shooting guard from Oak Park High School in Kansas City.
His story will be well-known very quickly. He hadn’t received his first offer from a big conference school until two weeks ago. Once Kansas got involved, the offers started pouring in, and then Bill Self put his offer on the table last Saturday. Agbaji said the decision was easy after that.
"Once Kansas offered, we sat down as a family, and I knew that was the place. The Jayhawks only problem next season will be finding enough playing time, where this season’s problem is the exact opposite. The Jayhawks are currently over the limit of scholarship players for 2018 with the addition of Agbaji.
As of right now that roster includes incoming recruits Devon Dotson, Quentin Grimes and David McCormack. Lagerld Vick, Malik Newman and Udoka Azubuike may be back next year if they decide not to go pro. Marcus Garrett, K.J. and Dedric Lawson, Mitch Lightfoot, Sam Cunliffe, Silvio De Sousa and Charlie Moore.
The 2018 class gives the hint that perhaps Bill Self is more comfortable playing with guards than people think. There could possibly be seven guards on the roster next season.
Defining Kansas
It’s unreal to think about this young mans last two weeks. From practically being an unknown with an unknown future to being known with a concrete foundation of a future. For Ochai to pick a school that has the class it does coming in, and to acknowledge the work it will take to gain playing time shows the kid’s approach and attitude.
The kid is strong with the ball, obviously talented, and Jayhawks fans will be happy he flew in under the radar. His game seems to be fairly rounded, but still leaves you wanting a little more. And that’s fine, Bill Self can work those kinks out in no time.
Next: Best seasons ever for Kansas Basketball
Ochai Agbanji will be a name you won’t want to forget.
