Kansas Basketball: Outside the Box with Scot Pollard
By Chris Taylor
Outside the Box with Scot Pollard
Pollard has starred in a few films you may have seen. He’s played an axe weilding serial killer in the Axeman as well as a basketball player in Jayhawkers and The Profit. Fans of the hit CBS show Survivor will recognize Scot from his appearance on season 32. Even though he didn’t win, he left his own mark on the show.
CT: Did you think you would last longer on Survivor? I imagine a pro athlete would have a bit of a target on their back.
Scot: I thought I would last longer on Survivor. My strategy was to downplay my effectiveness and be someone’s goat to drag to the end and then argue at final tribal who deserved it more.
Apparently they saw me as a threat to actually win, because why else would you vote out someone who doesn’t need the money, who hadn’t won a single immunity challenge, provided a good portion of the food and firewood, and supposedly everyone hated? To me, either they were all incredibly short sighted (not likely) or I was actually a threat.
Scot finished 8/18 and lasted 27 days.

CT: Out of these four characters you portrayed, which was your favorite? Bill (the axeman), B.H. Born (Jayhawkers), El Monstruo (Barrio Tales), Joseph Smith (The Profit).
Scot: Favorite character I played in a movie would probably be the Axeman. Filmed it right after my divorce and it was a cathartic experience. Being on a set, sleeping in the house with the cast and crew like a college dorm. ( I had my own room). Killing people. It was all very good for my soul at the time.
CT: What projects are you currently working on?
Scot: Currently working on my podcast “Planet Pollard Podcast” available on iTunes and Soundcloud. Raising my kids. Building a new house (paying to have it built, not actually doing it myself), and trying to figure out how to do calculus.
One of those above is not true.
