The day after the announced trade between the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins, I sit down with Ian Cummings of Riggo’s Rag to get their perspective.
It was a crazy night for the Washington Redskins and the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday. Emotions of every kind could be felt by both sides. The Chiefs agreed to trade their Pro Bowl quarterback to the Redskins for a third round pick and Kendall Fuller. I reached out to Ian Cummings of Riggo’s Rag, a popular website dedicated to the Washington Redskins to get his perspective on the events that transpired.
CT: Thanks for talking with me Ian. So I have to ask you, how did you sleep Tuesday night after hearing the details of the trade?
Ian: Tuesday night was interesting. I actually didn’t know about the trade until twenty minutes after it happened. My phone had died, and the instant I charged it I got texts coming in, all caps, saying “ALEX SMITH IS A REDSKIN”. My head was buzzing all night, and sleeping wasn’t easy after all the excitement. Especially when it was revealed that we would be giving up Kendall Fuller in the transaction.
The price of Smith came at a cost. Fuller was ranked as the number six overall cornerback in 2017 by Profootballfocus.com. That’s quite a bit higher than Marcus Peters. That also leaves a hole for the Redskins to fill in free agency or the draft, without a third round pick.

Regarding sleep on Tuesday night, many Chiefs and Redskins fans lost sleep, for very different reasons. On the Chiefs side there was mostly jubilation mixed in with a bittersweet feeling by some. The reward the Chiefs received in return completely exceeded expectations of every single person that cared to care.
Redskins fans went completely ballistic, with comments and tweets not suitable for a family friendly article. You can imagine.
CT: It seems that Redskins fans are absolutely beside themselves on Twitter. Would you agree that this seems to be the pulse of your fans?
Ian: Redskins fans can certainly relate. This is nothing new to them however, as Bruce Allen has made a habit out of taking risks and making waves on an annual basis. The issue is certainly polarizing.
Some feel that Fuller should have been untouchable, given his recent breakout season. But at the same time, closure needed to be obtained at the quarterback position and the price was to high no matter what decision the Redskins made.
