Kansas City Chiefs: Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
To Be Continued?
Now here is where I have to draw a potential cloud over the Kansas City Chiefs move. Nothing here is finalized until the start of the league year on March 14th. That means that technically, the Redskins can back out of this deal. This is an unpredictable franchise, and there will be plenty of noise about this. Dan Snyder may change his mind.

Of course, even if the Redskins were to back out of the deal, that could still be beneficial for Kansas City. Alex Smith has already agreed to terms with his new team, which is technically not allowed. If Washington were to back out of the deal, the Chiefs could easily call for tampering and be awarded punitive compensation…and still possibly trade Alex Smith.
There will also be the questions surrounding Patrick Mahomes. While the young quarterback looked very good in his debut against the Broncos, he doesn’t have much experience. The Chiefs are putting the future of the franchise on his back, and there will be a lot of pressure with that. The opinions on this trade could change dramatically if Mahomes doesn’t live up to expectations.
All in all, it is amazing how this trade came together for the Kansas City Chiefs. General manager Brett Veach has really showcased his chops as a negotiator. The Chiefs got an amazing return for a quarterback that everyone knew they were getting rid of. That’s a phenomenal use of leverage and bargaining for KC.
