During Sunday afternoon’s victory against the Denver Broncos, rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes displayed his potential for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Finally, the Patrick Mahomes debut weaved its way into the 2017 season. In a meaningless game for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mahomes exhibited his tendencies and attributes as a highly anticipated quarterback. A first round pick for the Chiefs, Mahomes showed Chiefs Kingdom what he has in store, and why he was a first round pick.

Throughout the years of the organization, the quarterback position stood as an unstable predicament. Alex Smith remains quarterback number one for now, but the Mahomes era inches closer and closer. The way Mahomes handled himself for the Chiefs against the stellar defense of the Broncos was certainly special for someone so young, and inexperienced in the NFL.

The playoffs determine the true fate for Smith as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. If history repeats itself for the Chiefs in the playoffs, Smith probably gets the boot, which then results in the Mahomes era starting as soon as next season.

Things could be worse for the Chiefs, but they could also be better. Smith sent the program in the right direction, but for future use, Mahomes’ job is to send the team beyond. Further than the team has been in a long time.

This is the first time the Chiefs get a chance to get a full observation of Mahomes in the NFL. Mahomes showed everyone his high ceiling and his incredible way of throwing the football. After his debut, certain things were worth noting, as Mahomes sealed his first start, and victory in the NFL.
