The Kansas City Chiefs took over the sports world with a blockbuster trade involving Alex Smith, Kendall Fuller, a 3rd round pick and 17 million.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Redskins answered many questions last night with the news of a blockbuster trade that would send Alex Smith to the Redskins for a 3rd round pick and the best tasting icing on the cake in the number one slot corner in football, Kendall Fuller.
To make things sweeter the Chiefs will save around 17 million in cap space giving them freedom to do exactly what they want to do when the free agency period starts at 4:00pm on March 14th.
The announcement of this move also means Kirk Cousins time as a Redskin is officially over.

Wild guesses had been made since the Titans sent the Chiefs packing in this years Wildcard game as to what the Chiefs would do this off-season. Some felt like Kansas City would retain Smith for his final year, others thought he would be traded or released due to cap implications.
Not only does this prove that Andy Reid and superstar general manager Brett Veach feel like Patrick Mahomes is ready, it proves that even if some Chiefs fans are alright with being relevent, management is not.
All in
Patrick Mahomes looked every bit the part of a starting quarterback in the small glimpses we were able to catch. He provides something the Chiefs have not had in decades, intrigue. His skill sets are limitless. He has an uncanny pocket presence and can scramble with the best of them. He has the strongest arm in the NFL and his accuracy with the deep ball is just sick. His ability to throw on the run is top-notch and he isn’t afraid to make the throws that most quarterbacks wouldn’t think of attempting.
Mahomes wowed crowds, teammates, and opponents when he got the chance to show his stuff this past season. All the while being respective and patient for his turn. That time is now. He is your starting quarterback for the 2018 season.
With weapons like Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce at his disposal the sky is the limit, and if Mahomes throws hard enough, the sky is in danger.
On the defensive
Profootballfocus.com rated Kendall Fuller as the top slot corner in football. After watching film on his young career as a pro, he has all the tangibles to become a Hall of Fame defensive back.
He was part of an amazing secondary in Washington, now he becomes part of a downright stingy trio in Kansas City. Teamed up with a healthy Eric Berry and Marcus Peters, the Chiefs secondary all of a sudden becomes the defenses strong point and one of if not the best secondary in all of football.
Opposing quarterbacks are going to have a hard time finding open receivers in 2018.
Just getting started
With the cap space Kansas City saves, and the money they will free up with added releases later this winter they still have a chance to add one more corner, leaving Fuller in the slot. Malcolm Butler, DJ Hayden, Kendall’s brother Kyle Fuller, and possibly even Aqib Talib on the market, the Chiefs can make even more moves that set them apart from the rest.
Money is not an issue any longer, which is a breath of fresh air after the last five years being fairly strapped for cash. There are still other spots on the defense that need shored up as well, and if this is any indication, Veach will not be shy in going after the guys he wants.

The Chiefs are better today than they were yesterday. By the time mini camp starts, the Chiefs should be even better, ten fold. Needless to say, the Kansas City Chiefs mean business, and they are proving it.
