If you made it through all of those painful moments, then good job! You truly are a great Mizzou fan.

It’s amazing really just how many freak plays have happened to Missouri and gone against them. The Fifth Down play has happened to other teams, but none had an outcome as critical as the one against MU.

I wasn’t even born when that game took place, but people my age know all about the infamous “Fifth Down Game” and continue to keep its legacy going. That was only the beginning though, as the football team has had some crushing blows, including a missed opportunity to go to the Orange Bowl in 2008.

The “Flea Kicker” was another key moment in MU football history. The Tigers were oh so close to beating Nebraska for the first time in over two decades, but a freak play allowed the Cornhuskers to tie the game and they’d eventually win it in overtime. Just Missouri’s luck, right?

Oh and let’s not forget the hoops program, which has seen some horrible defeats. The loss to Norfolk State is easily one of the worst moments in school history because that was a year where Missouri should have went deep into the tournament. They were a freaking two seed and they lost to a school no one had heard of.

Speaking of March Madness, let’s not forget about that last second loss to UCLA in 1995. Mizzou was seconds away from making it to the Sweet Sixteen and could only watch as the Bruins went the length of the court and their buzzer beating layup went through the hoop.

Hopefully the Michael Porter Jr. injury ends up not being as bad and he can come back at some point in 2018. That one has the ability to still turn into a positive, but the rest of these are moments that make MU fans shake their heads and say “Only Missouri…”

The good news is that the luck can turn at any time. The Missouri Tigers have yet to win a National Championship in football or basketball, but that can obviously change. Fans have been patient long enough, so when that day comes, it will be glorious.
