We still have no idea what it is the Kansas City Royals have planned for the future. Our Tuesday Twitter poll asks fans what they want to see. Rebuild or re-sign?

I took to my soapbox this past weekend to yell at the Kansas City Royals about their lack of action this offseason. Sure, it’s been a slow offseason for just about every team in baseball. However, when you’re at a crossroads like the Royals are, inaction is the worst possible thing to do. At some point, you have to decide what the plan is.

As it stands, the Royals have yet to commit to either rebuilding the organization or trying to re-sign their core talent and stay competitive. Both avenues have their merits and downsides. However, staying in the middle of the road this close to the start of the 2018 season is just foolishness.

So I put it to you, my fellow royalty. The question is pretty simple. Do you want to see the Kansas City Royals commit to rebuilding the organization? OR Do you want to see them try to re-sign star players like Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas to make another run at the postseason?

A Playoff Run Is Not Impossible

The big kicker in all of this for the Kansas City Royals is that the markets have dried up for both Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas. Neither player seems likely to get the mega deal that so many had predicted towards the end of last year. That puts the Royals in a position to sign one or both of them.

Of course, it’s easy to point out that the team fell apart down the stretch in each of the past two seasons. However, the Royals do have some trade pieces to work with if they want to get aggressive during the year. KC had been linked to a number of players on the trade block last year, but failed to score a truly noteworthy move.

If Kansas City does want to try and remain competitive for the near future, then signing Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas makes sense. Having two fan-favorite stars like that returning to the roster also won’t hurt ticket and merchandise sales.

It’s definitely the riskier move though.

The Rebuild We Have Been Expecting

We all thought we had seen the last of Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas in Kansas City Royals uniforms. It was to the point that the players were openly saying their good byes to the fans at the end of the 2017 season. This was supposed to be a pretty straightforward ordeal. Hosmer and Moustakas would get piad, and the Royals would rebuild.

More from Kansas City Royals

Here we are in January, and there is still no rebuild going on. Kansas City hasn’t been making the moves that we expected. Despite early offseason rumors that everyone on the roster would be available at the right price, the Royals have made just middling moves. It’s been a bit infuriating for many of us.

There is no doubt that taking the rebuilding path is the smarter bet. Let your top players go, and acquire some quality prospects to rebuild the farm system with. It’s how KC got to where they were just a few years ago. Now, that path isn’t entirely impossible even with re-signing one (maybe both) of these free agents. It’s a lot harder though.

At some point, a decision has to be made. What do you think it should be Royals fans?

The Kansas City Royals are stuck in the middle of no man’s land, and can’t decide which way to run. It’s not an enviable position for Dayton Moore to be in. Either way he will have to justify his call to David Glass and the fan base. However, that gets tougher every day. At some point he needs to just rip the band aid off.
