The first 2018 NFL Mock Draft is complete! The Kansas City Chiefs took four defensive players, two offensive players, and a specialist in this mock draft.

This should be a defensive heavy draft for the Chiefs in 2018, but I still had to throw in some offensive picks as well. Cole Madison and Jacques Patrick are definitely “depth selections”, but you never know when those kind of picks are going to come in handy and pan out.

As for the first few picks, Jerome Baker is someone who could come in and help the pass rush get tougher. The pass rush was brutally bad last season and it’s time for the unit to get younger and better at sacking the quarterback.

The secondary also needs improvement, which is why Anthony Averett was my second pick of the mock draft. Quarterbacks were able to have their way down the field this season against the Chiefs and while yes, a lot of that is on the pass rush, it’s also on the secondary too.

The other two defensive players were both edge rushers in Duke Ejiofor and Andrew Brown. These are two studs who could come in and help wreck havoc on opposing offenses.

Oh, and then there was the punter that the Chiefs took in the sixth round. People will be mad about that, but Michael Dickson is no joke. He’d be able to likely stay a Chief for the entirety of his career (or at least most of it, like Dustin Colquitt) and then perhaps people wouldn’t be so pissy about it.

Personally, I’d have liked to have drafted an offensive lineman earlier on in the draft, but there just weren’t good options whenever KC was on the clock. I also opted not to draft a wide receiver because quite frankly, it’s not a need for the Chiefs next season, especially if they re-sign Albert Wilson.

It was a little disappointing with A) the lack of early picks that KC has and B) how few picks the team has in general. That made some of these selections a little tougher because I knew if there was a position that needed to be addressed, it had to come at the beginning.

What do you think of this mock draft Chiefs fans? Is there a player you have your eye on in this year’s draft?
