It was certainly tough narrowing down this list, especially when it came to ranking the top three.

Jack Gardner, Jack Hartman, and Tex Winter were all amazing coaches for the KSU hoops program and it was difficult choosing who to rank as the best. All three men hold different records for the school, with Gardner leading the charge in most wins (294), Hartman leading in tournament appearances (seven), and Winter leading in most conference championships (eight).

Each of these men coached at the university for over a decade, which is very difficult to do in collegiate sports. Gardner was the only KSU head coach to get the Wildcats to a National Championship game and fans are still waiting for that second ever appearance.

Bruce Weber was left off this list and I doubt many Kansas State fans are too upset about that. While a lot of K-State fans aren’t crazy about Bruce Weber, the guy has had success with the university. He’s in his sixth year at Kansas State, and had led the Cats to the NCAA Tournament three times in his first five years.

Weber hasn’t done enough to crack the top five just yet, but if he can get the Wildcats deep into the NCAA Tournament, then that might be enough to put him ahead of Frank Martin.

It will be incredibly difficult for any coach to jump ahead of the top three ranked coaches on this list however. Tex Winter, Jack Gardner, and Jack Hartman are probably always going to be the three best coaches in K-State basketball history.

Unless a future coach can get the Kansas State Wildcats to a National Championship Game, then these three will remain at the top for many more years to come.
