Kansas State Basketball nearly jumped the hurdle that has been the Kansas Jayhawks, just falling short in an impressive performance at Allen Fieldhouse.

The losing streak at Lawrence climbed to 12 after the Wildcats came up short on a broken play to end the game. In an up and down contest Kansas State Basketball fought a good fight, giving the Jayhawks everything they can handle.

Dean Wade scored 22 points to lead Bruce Weber’s squad, as he continues to be a highlight for the Wildcats. Cartier Diarra scored a career high 18 points, and Barry Brown added 12.

The game didn’t finish without controversy however, as Diarra was called for a technical foul when apparently he mouthed something and was heard. This lead to Weber criticizing the refs after the game. Devonte’ Graham knocked down both free throws which ended up helping the Jayhawks reach the point total of 73.

Barry Brown put up the last shot of the game, which appeared to be an uncomfortable three-point shot that missed its target. The Wildcats lost this one 73-72.

The Wildcats played well for the most part. If there is such a thing, it was a good loss for Kansas State. The absence of Kamau Stokes, the Wildcats third leading scorer definitely had an effect on the end result. Of course, the same can be said with Bill Self’s Jayhawks, who are still waiting for clearance of Billy Preston, their number one recruit.

The Wildcats undoubtedly will be a force to reckon with throughout the rest of Big12 play. It doesn’t get any easier in the next week though.

The rest of the way

The Wildcats face off against Trae Young and the Sooners on Tuesday before facing TCU on Saturday. Both games are at home however, which could benefit the Wildcats tremendously.

Kansas State gets their opportunity to pay back Kansas on the 29th on Big Monday in front of a national audience.

Bramlage Coliseum will be loud and rowdy as always when the Jayhawks come to town. If the Wildcats can win the games they are supposed to and sprinkle a good win here and there, they should end up with a comfortable spot in the big dance.
