The Kansas City Chiefs blew an 18-point lead

The “Stagnant City Chiefs”  kicked the football off to start the third quarter. An eight minute drive by the Titans gave them their first touchdown of the game. A touchdown that would only occur against the Chiefs.

A deflected pass by cornerback Darelle Revis landed in the lap of Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, which he caught and dove for the pylon. At this moment, the 18 point lead turned to 11. Being a seasoned Chiefs fan, I knew exactly what was about to take place. Because let’s be honest, the Chiefs never make it easy. Never.

21-10, and the Chiefs went conservative. A story told a plethora of times for the Chiefs. The objective of the second half seemed to be “kill clock, and get ready for next week”. Due to this, next week is non-existent.

21-10 turned into 21-16 in a heartbeat. This is when the fans within Arrowhead Stadium wearing red, and gold braced themselves. The Kansas City Chiefs were about to break the hearts of 73,000 plus fans.

At this point in the game, one of my friends sitting beside me stated “We are going to blow this football game, aren’t we?” I tried to stay calm, and trust the system. Trust that Andy Reid would get us out alive, and continue the season.

21-16 became 22-21 in favor of the Titans. Mariota’s pass to veteran wide receiver Eric Decker gave the Titans the lead. This is where the place went silent. The bone-chilling silence that dwelled within the crowd. This is the silence I said I would never forget.
