Kansas Basketball has one more player that’s been on their radar since the beginning of the off-season, Zion Williamson, who is set to announce his decision on January 20th.

Zion Williamson announced on January 3rd that his decision on where to play in 2018 will be made public on January 20th. Bill Self and the Kansas Basketball program have actively pursued Zion for years.

The 6’7″ Power Forward, weighing in at 272 pounds with a 7′ wingspan has demanded the attention of every single basketball program. The most anticipated player in the freshman class, more so than any freshman in 2017, has finally made up his mind.

It is still unclear on who his choice might be. Blue bloods Kansas, Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina, among the likes of South Carolina and current favorite Clemson are all considered to be in the hunt.

Clemson would allow him to stay at home, plus he likes to be the main attraction. That is something he won’t be if he’s surrounded by five-star recruits like himself. However, the chances of Zion picking Kansas, or one of the other big name basketball program are good enough to keep an eye on.

This will be the last big grab of the 2018 recruiting class, so it should garner the attention of every college basketball fan in America and beyond.

Whoever grabs him will become a team to watch, especially if he stays close to home.

The 2018 class is already a monster one. Adding Zion would be unfair. The chance to team up with players like Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes, the Lawson brothers and Udoka Azubuike could be added sugar to what Kansas already offers as a school and a basketball program.

Much like Andrew Wiggins did, he could surprise everyone and come to Lawrence. Bill Self loves having big men on the court, and he has done quite well with them. Joel Embid, Thomas Robinson, Sasha Kaun and the Morris twins are just a few.

Why and Why not

The why can be answered with the most common answer. It’s Kansas. Loved by fans, historic venue, perennial powerhouse and lots of television exposure.

The why not comes down to how much playing near home means to him, as well as how crowded the roster is. This sweepstakes isn’t as close as the Trae Young sweepstakes, but to have a kid of his caliber and talent would be huge for Kansas fans.
