Rebuilding is a scary word in professional sports. If Eric Hosmer returns to the Kansas City Royals, rebuilding will be much easier.

Rebuilding. In professional sports it usually means fans will have to wait for success. Patiently or impatiently, Kansas City Royals fans may have to suffer through a rebuilding phase to get back to the glory phase.

When a team rebuilds, it often means that either success has run dry or the wallet has. The Royals find themselves dealing with both. However, the Royals have offered Hosmer a great deal of money to not only come back, but potentially retire as a Royal.

Having a superstar like Hosmer on the roster makes the rebuild a bit easier to survive as fans. In many ways a move such as this one adds many fixes to a team trying to start over. Other stars in the league are more likely to test the Royal blue waters with a star already on the roster. Good players can often make those around them better if they have the right attitude, which Hosmer does.

The Royals will be much better if they can lure him back, as he can take partial responsibility in the Royals World Series days, as well as the scattered wins they obtained last season. It would be difficult for the Royals to make up his 94 rbi’s he totaled in 2017.

Eric had one of, if not his best season yet last year. He had career highs in on-base percentage, hits, walks, and batting average while tying his home run best of 25. Perhaps the biggest stat is the fact that he plays hard and plays a lot. He played in all 162 games last season.

Cross your fingers

After the potential sendoff Hosmer received along with some of his other team members from the fans, he knows that while he collects a fat chunk of change, he will have a city and a fan base looking after him.

Although the Padres and Cardinals are definitely interested, it appears now that the Royals have more interest in their lefty first baseman than either. Hosmer has just the character to stay with the team he knows, and the fans that cherish him.

In a somewhat weak and youth oriented division, a Hosmer return could find the Royals right back in the mix, possibly.
