K-State football heads into the offseason with far more interesting story lines than I think they hoped for.

The age of the head coach will matter more than ever. The recruiting class that ranks in the 70s by most services, two legit quarterback candidates, an open offensive coordinator position, plus the new tenth assistant coach.

Up first is settling the head coach position. On the early signing day, Bill Snyder was non-committal on his future, which certainly doesn’t help with recruiting. Actually, this is probably worthy of an entirely new article, but it’s the lack of self-awareness of the program that on one of the most important non-gamedays for the future, a coach is actively sabotaging his efforts.

K-State is in an awkwardly tenuous spot over their handling of the transition plan. Frankly, I don’t understand why. I don’t think K-State fans need the final answer today, they just need the confidence that it’s being handled.

Next: Five Potential Replacements for Bill Snyder

There are on the field concerns as well, as five seniors are on the two deep on defense that will need to be replaced. There are also multiple players weighing NFL options in Byron Pringle and D.J. Reed (my advice to both is probably declare.) Winston Dimel is also up in the air on his future.

The good news is the quarterback competition should be exciting and there are a bunch of improving players who I suspect want to improve on this season.
