Kansas Basketball has been the most dominant team through conference play in NCAA history for 13 straight seasons, but the run for 14 may come up a bit short.

The dominance of Kansas Basketball has grown old among their Big 12 counterparts. The Jayhawks have won the powerful conference for 13 straight seasons, tying UCLA for the most consecutive conference titles. The chance at a 14th hangs in limbo.

Non-conference play is over. Everything that has happened so far no longer matters. The next 18  games will determine whether or not Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks can sit alone at the top of the record books.

14 straight titles is quite possibly more important than any other post season awards the Jayhawks may obtain this year. Kansas is known for its history and its nostalgic feel. The Jayhawks logo at center court of Allen Fieldhouse is college basketball. The pressure of this feat may just be too much for Self’s young and shorthanded team to handle.

The Jayhawks started the season on a hot streak, only to be stifled by the likes of the Washington Huskies and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Both losses came at home in Lawrence and their home away from home at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Perhaps more surprising was the near defeat at Nebraska, which was saved thanks to Svi Mykhailiuk’s three-point shot to put the Jayhawks up by one.

There has been plenty of off-court news surrounding the Kansas Basketball program so far, which could play a part in the end story of the 2017-2018 squad.

The odds makers believe the Jayhawks have a less than 50% chance of grasping number 14, let’s take a look at five reasons those odds are leaning the right way.
