Mizzou football fell to the Texas Longhorns in the Texas Bowl on Wednesday night. The biggest story, however, came from something that the Texas head coach did on the sideline.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that Mizzou football lost badly to the Texas Longhorns in the Texas Bowl, Longhorns head coach Tom Herman was caught mocking Missouri quarterback Drew Lock on the sideline. This has taken social media by storm.

First thing’s first, Missouri didn’t play well. What was a high-powered offense at the end of the 2017 regular season looked horrid against Texas and only put up 16 points. If Drew Lock was planning to go pro before this game, chances are he’d have reconsidered afterwards.

Now, onto the story at hand. Texas iced the game and Tom Herman, who is in his first year as the head coach of Texas, was seen doing Drew Lock’s touchdown dance on the sideline while his players were surrounding him and laughing.

People are really upset about this situation and I can see it from both points of view.

On one end, Tom Herman is a 42 year old man who coaches one of the most prestigious programs in all of college football. Say what you want about Texas football lately, but it used to be a powerhouse and very well could get back to that in the next few years.

Herman doing this makes him and the program look bad. He’s mocking a 21 year old college student and doing it in front of his players and those who look for him to set a good example. Not a very mature (or classy) move there.

Not to mention this was just the Texas Bowl. If the Longhorns had knocked off Mizzou in a higher profile bowl game, then being that excited might be a bit more justified. The Texas Bowl is not one of those big time bowl games no matter how exciting it can be in certain years.

On the other hand, however, if Drew Lock doesn’t find the move offensive, then why should anyone else? Lock is the “victim” here (if there really is one), so if he thinks it’s funny, let’s all have a laugh and forget about it.

Lock appeared to be just fine with what Herman did. While we live in a society today where nearly everyone is offended by everything, I say if the guy being made fun of is able to laugh it off, let’s all laugh it off.

Hopefully Missouri plays Texas again while Lock is still playing and he can have some sort of revenge dance in that game. Then we can all go home happy and forget this ever happened.

Good for Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns for their victory, but maybe don’t mock a college student next time to show your enthusiasm. That’s not a good look for you or your program.
