Kansas Basketball is getting some much needed depth in the upcoming game against Nebraska in SG/SF Sam Cunliffe. Here is all you need to know.

The Jayhawks sure could use some help right now, and they will get it through the addition of Sam Cunliffe. It’s still uncertain if he is as soft as his fellow teammates as coach Bill Self described them after their second loss in a row to Sam’s former team, the Arizona State Sun Devils. the addition of an able-bodied player off the bench really can’t do anything but point Kansas Basketball upward at this point.

Forced to sit out the first semester due to NCAA rules on transferring, Sam has patiently been waiting for his opportunity to make his mark on the potentially historic season. The 6’6″ guard/forward is yet another man who can stroke from the outside. He shot 40% from beyond the arc while at ASU and has been a common name thrown around after practices, as he has apparently been impressing not only his coaches but his teammates as well.

More help could be on its way for the Jayhawks, as Billy Preston still has yet to play a game due to a school investigation into the car he was driving when he wrecked it just before the season tipped off. Silvio De Souza could also be available by the end of December, but one would think it might be a while before he is able to actually contribute.

Cunliffe is a sure thing however. He will be playing basketball against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. He is incredibly athletic as the video below clearly shows, which was published in the summer of 2016, before he attended ASU.

Fits right in

He has an explosiveness near the rim and an outside shot to be admired. The transition should be smooth as silk since he has been practicing with the squad all season. He also has a bit of a sense of humor as you can see in his interview with Mitch Lightfoot, which also has become a trait of the Kansas Basketball family.

If the Jayhawks are to make history this season, it is apparent that the situation with Preston must be resolved soon, as well as the play of Cunliffe. The pressure will be high for Sam, as Jayhawk faithful will undoubtedly expect an immediate impact.

The season is young, and there are still three more games before conference play begins. That is when things get serious for Bill Self and his young squad.
