Royals Rumors: Potential landing spots for Lorenzo Cain in free agency
POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS FOR LORENZO CAIN – SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
Now that the Giancarlo Stanton sweepstakes has wrapped up, we should be hearing more about the Giants pursuing Lorenzo Cain. Stanton going to the Yankees is going to cause a lot of other dominoes to fall, which will include some of the bigger free agents starting to chat with other teams.
Back in mid November, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports wrote about each MLB team and what they were doing in the free agency period at that given time. Here’s what Heyman wrote about the Giants,

"Center field, in fact, is said to be the focus. Lorenzo Cain is someone they’ve looked at, and Jon Morosi of MLB.com mentioned trade possibilities as Jackie Bradley Jr. and Billy Hamilton as some others."
Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors predicted that the Giants would land Cain on a four-year deal worth $70 million. That’d be a crazy amount of money for someone on the “wrong side” of 30, but the Royals did do the same thing with Alex Gordon.
Another thing to keep in mind with the Giants potentially adding Cain is that they’d have to give up the most, according to Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors. Remember – Since the Royals offered Cain a qualifying offer and he rejected it, whoever signs him will now have to give the Royals a first round pick.
"Of the teams listed by Crasnick, the Giants would pay the steepest penalty — forfeiting their second- and fifth-highest draft selections as well as $1MM worth of international spending money."
With so much on the line in order to sign Cain, could the Giants still be in on Cain? Don’t be surprised if he winds up in the Bay.
