Kansas Basketball has been hot this season, but the Washington Huskies dumped ice all over them Wednesday night at the Sprint Center.
The Sprint Center hasn’t been kind to Kansas Basketball as of late. Twice last season Bill Self’s Jayhawks were defeated there. TCU got them in the Big 12 tournament and Oregon knocked them out of the dance.
The three-point shot has been Kansas’ bread and butter so far this season, with multiple guys able to knock down the three from anywhere. This loss goes to show that if they are off beyond the arc, they can be beat. If Devonte’ Graham is off, they can be beat. Graham scored 35 points in back to back games before shooting one for eight and finishing with three points total.
Graham didn’t have much help either. Udoka Azubuike had 10 points, Svi and Malik Newman each had eight. Svi fouled out late in the game. The only Jayhawk worth truly mentioning was Lagerald Vick. Vick finished with 28 points on 12-23 shooting, so his evening wasn’t all that great either.
The Jayhawks as a whole only shot 25% from the three-point line, compared to the 43% shot by the Huskies. The Huskies out-rebounded the Jayhawks as well.

Perhaps Self should reconsider playing games at the Sprint Center from now on. The benefits do not seem to outweigh the negatives. The loss Wednesday night doesn’t mean much for Kansas. They have #16 Arizona State coming to Allen Fieldhouse next, which should be a nice rebound game for KU. These types of losses are what you make them. It will be intriguing to see if Kansas Basketball gets back to doing what they’ve done best all season.
Help coming?
The chances of seeing Billy Preston on the court soon are getting better with every passing day, obviously, as long as the investigation comes back clean from his on campus accident. The Jayhawks could have used him on this night.
Sam Cunliffe will be available on the 16th of this month, another guard, albeit a big guard. If anything, the addition of Preston and Cunliffe will add much needed depth to a fairly weak bench.
Self being himself
After the game Bill Self gave one of his patented sound bites when asked about the Kansas faithful heading to the exits early.
"If I would have paid to see that, I probably would have wanted something to drink long before there was 2 minutes left."

It would be a popular bet that this squad will make sure the fans get their moneys worth on Sunday.
