Kansas Basketball: Notes and TV Info vs Washington Huskies
By Joel Wagler
The Kansas basketball team meets the Washington Huskies at the Sprint Center Wednesday in the Jayhawk Shootout.
The Kansas Jayhawks, fresh off a big win against Syracuse, now will have another Power Five conference foe in the Washington Huskies in the Jayhawk Shootout in Kansas City.
The Jayhawks are undefeated, but their schedule will be tougher moving forward. After Washington, KU plays Arizona State on Sunday, then they won’t play again until the following weekend, as they take a break from games for finals.
Starting on December 16th, Sam Cunliffe will be eligible to play. Cunliffe averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds during the first semester last year at Arizona State before transferring. Although he is a guard, he has size, and he should help the overall depth of the thin Kansas bench.
In case you are wondering, there is no news yet on the Billy Preston situation. Though a resolution may be on the horizon, according to Matt Tait of KUSports.com, Preston probably will not be on the court against Washington.

KANSAS BASKETBALL NOTES
After scoring 50 points in the first five games of the season, senior Devonte’ Graham has scored 70 in his last two games, dropping in 35 points each outing. He now leads the team in scoring, assists, and steals.
Mitch Lightfoot continues to offer a lift off the bench in Preston’s absence. He’s averaging 5.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in just 15 minutes a game. While Cunliffe’s addition to the active roster may cut into Lightfoot’s minutes slightly, he should still see significant playing time until (if) Preston is cleared to play.

The Jayhawks are hitting 43.5 percent of their three-point attempts. Here are how each player is performing from long range:
- Mitch Lightfoot – 57.1 percent (4 for 7)
- Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk – 54.3 percent (25 for 46)
- Lagerald Vick – 46.9 percent (15 for 32)
- Devonte’ Graham – 40.8 (20 for 49)
- Malik Newman – 40 percent (12 for 30)
- Marcus Garrett – 30.8 percent (4 for 13)
- Chris Teahan – 16.7 percent (1 for 6)
Graham’s percentage shot up after hitting seven of 13 against Syracuse from behind the arc while Newman’s percentage plummetted after missing all six of his three-point attempts against the Orange.
Graham has been playing well, but he does tend to turn the ball over in streaks. Though he has just 20 overall, 15 of his turnovers have come in three games. He needs to do a better job at consistently taking care of the basketball.

The Kansas basketball team needs to continue to improve as the move toward conference play at the end of the month. Beat Syracuse decisively was a great sign for this team, but outside of Graham and walk-on Clay Young, the Jayhawks did not play particularly well against the Orange. The Washington Huskies provide another chance the Kansas Jayhawks to work out some kinks.
