Nebraska Football: Scott Frost hoping to turn program around
Nebraska football fans were elated when the news broke on Saturday that the Cornhuskers had hired Scott Frost as their next head coach. Frost will bring positive change to Nebraska and get them back to relevancy.
Looking back at the short lived Mike Riley era of Nebraska football, something just seemed off from the beginning. Things didn’t get off to a great start when the Huskers dropped their first season opener in 29 years on a last second Hail Mary by BYU.
That entire season drug by as the Cornhuskers found new ways to barely lose each week. They finished 5-7, but made a bowl game and actually knocked off UCLA in that bowl game. Even though 2016 was a step up, Nebraska fell back to irrelevancy in 2017 and it led to the dismissal of Mike Riley.
New Huskers head coach Scott Frost will bring winning back to Nebraska football. He’s already hot on the recruiting trail and has been quoted as saying he wants to try to have the best offense in college football. These are two things that seem like no brainers for any head coach, but Huskers fans were worried about what state recruiting might be in after Riley’s departure.
Scott Frost knows Nebraska and what it’s about.
Not only is Frost already making noise with recruiting, but he’s brought most of his staff with him from Central Florida. Yes, the same Central Florida team that went 12-0 and will appear in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.
For a glimpse at what Nebraska football could look like in the upcoming years, watch that game. Frost will be coaching it surprisingly and his (now former) Knights will try to upset the Auburn Tigers.

This is a nice coaching change for Nebraska. While firing Bo Pelini in 2014 was the right decision, the hiring of Mike Riley never seemed like it’d be a long-term deal. Riley was a nice guy, but the Huskers did not achieve anything close to excellence while he was in Lincoln.
Scott Frost knows Nebraska and what it’s about. Fans knew things were lining up for Frost to come home, but it was still a nerve-racking few weeks. Frost was quoted in an article from ESPN,
"“Words can’t describe how much it means to be back here at a place I love, a place that I understand, a place that I want to represent.”"
Looking at what Frost did for UCF was impressive. The Knights went winless in 2015 and then Frost took over and led them to a 6-7 record in 2016. This year, they went undefeated. To say that Frost is the right man for the job in Lincoln is an understatement.
While the 2015-2017 seasons were a struggle, they’ll be worth the payoff that Nebraska football is about to have. It might not be immediate, but in the next few years, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be one of the top teams in college football again.
Life is good in Lincoln.
