The Kansas basketball team will tip off against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies as part of the Hoophall Miami Invitational.

For the second of three campus rounds in the Hoophall Miami Invitational, the Kansas basketball team will host the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Friday night.

The Kansas Jayhawks are 4-0 this far this season after a blow out win over Texas Southern earlier in the week. Kansas poured in 114 points in the 43-point victory.

The Jayhawks will most likely be without freshman forward Bill Preston as the investigation into the financing of his vehicle is ongoing. It has to be more concerning as time passes that this issue has not been put to rest yet.

KANSAS BASKETBALL NOTES

The Jayhawks shattered their school record with 19 made three-pointers against Texas Southern. While this is an incredible feat, do not get too hyped up about it. Texas Southern was one of the worst defensive teams you will ever see. Their total lack of defensive awareness was stunning.

Another encouraging stat is Kansas has just seven turnovers in each other it’s last two games. Granted, the competition was lacking, but if KU can protect the ball, it will go a long way toward their success.

After committing 20 turnovers in the opening game, they have just 25 in their last three games combined. It is an even great number when you consider they have 67 assists in those same three games.

The Jayhawks have five players averaging in double digits in points. Surprisingly, senior Devonte’ Graham is fifth on the team with an 11.3 scoring average.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

As a team, the Jayhawks have shot only 56 free throws, an average of just 14 a game. This seems very low, especially when their opponents are averaging four more attempts per game.

KU is hitting just 66.1 percent from the charity stripe as a team, but that number jumps to 75 percent when you take out Azubuike’s terrible 43.8 shooting percentage from the line. The sophomore center needs to significantly improve in this area!

It will be interesting to see how this Kansas basketball team will perform against another low major program. They’ve been steamrolling the cupcakes so far. While it is building up some experience and confidence with the players, hopefully, they aren’t developing too many bad habits, such as relying too heavily on the three-point shot.
