K-State football is eligible to go bowling for the 8th straight year after beating OSU in Stillwater, defying the oddsmakers.

The Wildcats are no longer Mildcats after going down I-35 to Stillwater and beating the 13th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. Bill Snyder has yet again led K-State football to become bowl eligible.

The Wildcats won the game 45 -40, and it really wasn’t that close. K-State was a near 20 point underdog in the contest, and looked much better than their ranked opponent for most of the game. The Wildcats played well in all aspects of the game, coming up with huge plays on defense and the long kick return by Byron Pringle on special teams.

Mason Rudolph must have started the game at a different stadium, unable to get anything going with what should be the top receiver group in the nation. Not until the final nine minutes did fans get to see the quick hitting offense of the Pokes. Instead it was the Wildcats that struck fast throughout the game. The Cats scored touchdowns on four drives that totalled two, three, four, and five plays each. Even in doing so, Bill Snyder’s squad controlled the ball for over ten minutes longer than the Cowboys.

All of this means the Wildcats will see a postseason game once again. Using the media and the odds as a tool throughout the week to pump his kids up, Bill Snyder found a way. how quickly things can turn. Earlier in the week there were reports of in-house feuding when a Facebook post mentioned Snyder and Kansas State “brass” did not agree on his successor. The possibilities of a cloud hanging over a program such as this one during a season of struggle could have been disastrous. Problem avoided, or at the least, postponed.

Freshman Phenom? 20 Point Underdogs?

Not quite 20, but what’s a half point in betting, am I right? On a serious note, the Wildcats should have been offended, in an age of being offended, theses odds clearly make the cut.

Snyder commented after the game,

"“We all knew it wasn’t an accurate number, but I told them you’re going to have to go out there and prove it, and we proved it tonight,”"

Skylar Thompson played amazingly well for the Wildcats, throwing for over 200 yards and running for 93 yards with four total touchdowns. Pringle caught all three touchdown passes. In just his second start of the season after spot work throughout the season, Thompson had his best game of his young career.

The freshman quarterback is quickly putting himself in position to lead this team for the remainder of his college career. Another good outing next week against the new and improved Cyclones will continue to help that narrative.

Choke N Pokes

The Oklahoma State Cowboys looked like a legitimate playoff contender, now they are all but sitting at home for the Big12 Championship game in Dallas, Texas. The Cowboys would need Baylor to beat TCU next week in a very unlikely upset for a series of events that still may not have the Pokes in the conference title game. Mike Gundy, cut the hair.
