Another game, another loss for Kansas football. This time, however, the Jayhawks broke a record. That record is for the longest losing streak on the road, which dates back to 2009. Yikes.

Kansas football fans (if there are any left) aren’t asking for much. They don’t expect to make it to the College Football Playoffs or even a bowl game. What KU fans would like, however, is for the Jayhawks to be competitive and win more than two games each season.

On Saturday, KU traveled to Austin to square off against the Texas Longhorns. Now last year, the Jayhawks managed to force overtime against the Horns and prevailed in one of the biggest games for the franchise since the good days. This year did not have the same result… It wasn’t nearly as big of an embarrassment as other games, but it was still a loss.

Kansas lost, which dropped them to 1-9 on the year and gave them a new record. That record isn’t anything to be bragging about though, as it’s the record for longest road losing streak in college football. The loss at Texas brought that number to 45 straight road losses. That streak dates back to 2009.

That’s right… The Jayhawks have not won a game on the road in eight years. To put it into perspective, I was a freshman in college the last time KU won an away game. I’ve now been a college graduate for five years. In other words, IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME.

At this point, it’s not even worth being upset about. Let’s face it… The Jayhawks haven’t been worth watching on the gridiron in nearly a decade and have gone from head coach to head coach during a tenure that has seen them disappoint year after year.

KU has one more chance to try and win a road game this year, when they face Oklahoma State in the final week of the season. Yeah, a victory isn’t happening there for the Jayhawks. They play the Sooners next week, but that’s in Lawrence and will be ugly for sure.

So, where does the program go from here? Many are calling for David Beaty’s job, which could happen, but then what? Hire another coach and try to rebuild again? It’s been the same story with the same result and it’s obvious the football program is nowhere near close to being a competitive unit.

Oh, in case you were wondering, the last road game that the Kansas Jayhawks won was against  UTEP in that 2009 season. That’d put them at 2-0 on the year and KU would get to 5-0 before dropping their final seven games. The program has yet to rebound.

So, where DOES Kansas football go from here? Is it time to tear it all down and rebuild again or should the Jayhawks keep rolling with David Beaty?
