Kansas City Royals News: Eric Hosmer, Rumors, Gold Gloves
By Joel Wagler
The Kansas City Royals news probably won’t slow down much in the coming weeks as the Hot Stove season heats up.
The Kansas City Royals should be in the news quite a bit during the Hot Stove season, one way or another. Royals rumors will be flying as their free agents look to sign new contracts, either with the Royals, or more likely, new teams.
If Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and Lorenzo Cain all sign with other teams, the Royals will have to look for bargains to fill some spots. While Cheslor Cuthbert can take over at third is Moustakas doesn’t return, current options to cover first base and center field aren’t optimal.
Hosmer has already been linked to the Red Sox. Can you imagine him banging balls off the Green Monster, the way he likes to go opposite field with power? No, he should stay Royal!
Royals were still recognized for their defense this past season. Hosmer still managed to earn a third Gold Glove, despite being hated by defensive metrics. According to Fangraphs, he earned an Ultimate Zone Rating of – .3 in 2017, ninth among American League first basemen. He was tenth in Defensive Runs Saved with -7!
Alex Gordon deservedly earned his fifth Gold Glove, leading all AL left fielders with a UZR of 11.5 and finishing second in DRS with 9.
