It will be an interesting offseason for the Kansas City Royals and we’re already seeing some Royals rumors floating around about potential free agents the boys in blue could sign. Could Logan Morrison be one of them?

The biggest buzz when it comes to Royals rumors this offseason will be surrounding first baseman Eric Hosmer, but what if Hosmer doesn’t come back? Being a young, hot hitting, four-time Gold Glove winning first baseman has its perks, and that’s made Hosmer an attractive free agent this offseason.

The Kansas City Royals must have a backup plan should Hosmer not remain a member of the Royals. Perhaps finding a replacement won’t be as difficult as some might have thought, as free agent first baseman Logan Morrison has expressed interest in playing for the Royals.

Jon Morosi tweeted on Thursday morning that Morrison said playing for the Royals “would be a dream come true”. Not many players have said that, but Morrison has spent a significant amount of time in the Kansas City area, so it makes sense.

Morrison has spent the last two years as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays and slashed .246/.353/.516 in 512 at bats. He crushed 38 home runs, plated 85 RBI, and hit 22 doubles as a member of the Rays last year.

The home run numbers really have to get Royals fans excited. Hosmer, as much as we love him, hit 25 last year, which was a career high for him. Now sure, Kauffman Stadium is tougher to hit home runs in, but adding Morrison would be a great thing for the Royals should Hosmer sign elsewhere.

Logan Morrison grew up in the Kansas City area and attended Blue Valley West for a few years before packing up and heading to New Orleans. He then played his college ball at Maple Woods Community College, which is in the Northland. All of this courtesy of Rustin Dodd’s tweet, included below.

The obvious hope is for the KC Royals to re-sign Eric Hosmer, but if the team can’t, which there’s a strong possibility they won’t retain Hoz, then why not go for Logan Morrison? He’d wear his Royals jersey with pride and would hopefully be a home run hitter for the team.

It’ll be a long winter full of Royals rumors, but this is certainly a more positive one. Guys don’t usually want to play for the Royals, but if there’s someone willing to, go sign that guy to a deal.
