The battle for the Governors Cup is once again upon us. Can the Kansas Jayhawks end the Kansas State Wildcats run in the matchup?
The Kansas State Wildcats have beaten their in-state rivals the last eight seasons. The Kansas Jayhawks are in no better shape to end their run.
What better be David Beaty’s last season in Lawrence, the Jayhawks have zero chance to beat the Wildcats. Which is why the Jayhawks could surprise some people.
There’s a good chance their will be more purple in Lawrence than blue and crimson. The Jayhawks have abandoned their fan base during football season.

The Kansas State Wildcats record doesn’t quite reflect how good the team actually is. However, sitting at 3-4 with three games remaining against top 25 teams could mean no bowl appearance.
That would be a far cry from where the Wildcats were slated at the beginning of the season.
Bill Snyder’s team has been in every game other than the loss to TCU. They have become that team nobody wants to play but everyone should beat.
Everyone but Kansas that is.
Let’s take a few quick hits on the Sunflower Showdown.
- Kansas leads the series overall 64-45-5
- Kansas State has won 8 straight
- The longest win streak is 11 by KSU
- The largest victory was 64-0 by KSU (2002)
- KSU won the last meeting 34-19
- Last season’s victory by KSU was Bill Snyder’s 200th
- 2009 was the last time the Jayhawks got within a score, the first loss of the current streak.
Futility Bowl #2
On November 7th, 1987, these two teams met with a combined record of 1-15. It was the beginning of the end of the pre-Snyder era. (Yes, they played football at Kansas State before him)
This isn’t quite that bad… a combined record of 4-10 isn’t that appealing either.
If you have nothing better to do, you can watch this debacle on
- FS1 @ 2:00 pm central
- Wildcats are 25 point favorites with an over/under of 55
- If you can guess the score correctly, I will personally buy you a pizza, just leave your predictions in the comment section below.

- If one or more guess the correct score I will personally send you an IOU.
The meaning of this game had lost most of its swagger years ago. This years game has no importance on a National level.
Next: Potential replacements for Snyder
My personal prediction is 35-14 Wildcats after the Jayhawks jump to a 14-0 lead early on.
Enjoy the game and I hope I don’t have to buy you a pizza.
