The Kansas City Royals could have players potentially adding to their hardware collection, as four members of the Royals have been nominated for a Gold Glove.

During their impressive run over the last few years, the Kansas City Royals impressed many with their defensive play on the diamond. That’s precisely what the Gold Glove Award rewards: the ability to play defense at your position better than anyone in your league.

The KC Royals once again have several players nominated for this award. Those players are:

Perez is the likeliest to win the Gold Glove from this bunch, as he’s head and shoulders above the rest of the American League at the catcher position, both offensively and defensively. If Perez wins the coveted award, it’d be his fifth and would definitely cement his legacy. Perez is only 27 years old and could have five Gold Gloves, a World Series ring and MVP title, and a Silver Slugger Award.

Eric Hosmer is another guy who has a lot of hardware early on in his career. The Royals first baseman has three Gold Gloves in the trophy case and also has a World Series ring and an All-Star Game MVP on his resumé. Hosmer’s chances of winning this year aren’t a guarantee, as he has some stiff competition in Mitch Moreland of the Red Sox and Carlos Santana of the Indians.

Alex Gordon, for as bad as he is offensively, has always been a staple at defense. One would hope that if the Royals are paying Gordon what they’re paying him, that he be ELITE at something. He’s elite at defense. This what be Gordon’s fifth Gold Glove if he wins. He also has a Platinum Glove, which he won in 2014.

Lastly, Lorenzo Cain, who has yet to win a Gold Glove during his career. That sentence is baffling to me, as Cain looked to be one of the best defenders in the league during the Royals’ hot run. He likely missed out in 2014 due to shifting over to right field frequently, but Cain is certainly deserving of the award this year.

Cain’s chances of winning are slim, however, as Byron Buxton of the Twins is going to be the favorite to win the award in center this year. Buxton was great defensively and deserves it for sure, but Cain has been screwed over in years past and should already have one on his mantle.

The Gold Glove winners will be announced on November 7th.
