K-State football has been disappointing this season, currently sitting at 3-4. This was a team that was supposed to contend in the Big 12, but they have a losing record and look lost. Fortunately, help is on the way in the form of KU football.

This Saturday at 2:00, K-State football will have an opportunity to get back to .500 on the year. The game will take place on the road in good ol’ Lawrence where the Wildcats will face a team even more disappointing than themselves in the Kansas Jayhawks.

Look, no one was calling for the Jayhawks to be a “good” team this year, but three wins seemed doable for Kansas. Instead, KU is 1-6 and hasn’t scored a single point in their last two games.

In other words, if Kansas State can’t bring home a victory on Saturday, then there truly is reason to panic for this team. By this point, it’s evident that the Wildcats aren’t going to fight for the Big 12 title, but it’d be nice for them to at least partake in a bowl game later this year.

This K-State team appeared to be ripe with talent, but it just hasn’t panned out this year. Jesse Ertz has struggled both on the field and with trying to stay healthy. The run game isn’t shaping up to be as aggressive as we all thought it would. Not to mention, the wide receivers rarely hold onto passes thrown their way.

The defense has been one of the more surprising factors, but it’s obvious they’re outmatched in a lot of games. The defense shouldn’t have a problem shutting down the Jayhawks this weekend, as both Iowa State and TCU kept them from having any momentum.

The pressure will be squarely on the KSU offense on Saturday. Ertz has been said to be good to go for this game, but is that really a good thing? Alex Delton has performed well in his absence and we might be having a bit of quarterback controversy in Manhattan.

While the “Sunflower Showdown” is competitive in basketball, football is a different story. Kansas State hasn’t lost to the Jayhawks on the gridiron since the 2008 season. As you might recall, the Jayhawks were actually good at football that year. Since then, it’s been all K-State in this contest.

With three straight losses looming large, the Kansas State Wildcats need to put together a solid game plan and kick the losing Jayhawks to the curb. This game is about as close to a “gimme win” as one can get, so K-State has to take care of business and put the smackdown on KU.

Otherwise… Yikes.
