The Kansas City Chiefs lost a gross game on Thursday night. They went from being undefeated on the year to losing two games within four days. Fans have been waiting for this to happen.

I was sitting at my cubicle at work on Thursday afternoon when my cubicle-neighbor was on his way out. He poked his head in my cube and gave me his score prediction for the game, in which he predicted the Raiders to beat the Kansas City Chiefs.

I laughed and said, “No way. Get out of here with that garbage”. Once he walked away, I laughed to myself, mainly because deep down, I agreed with him. The Raiders had a very good chance in this game and they showcased that on Thursday night.

Chiefs fans are a rare breed, especially lately. The team has been competitive over the last five seasons and it’s been an absolute blast to watch. With that said, however, a large majority of the fans, myself included, are always waiting for that other shoe to drop.

The blue print is out on how to beat the Kansas City Chiefs and it ain’t pretty, folks.

That shoe is usually losing an embarrassing game, sometimes in the playoffs, and then everyone losing hope. That’s where the fan base is at the moment after dropping a winnable game to the Oakland Raiders on Thursday Night Football for the whole world to see.

Only the Chiefs could have 50 chances to try and end the game and still find a way to lose. Only the Chiefs could throw for three touchdowns and over 300 yards and still lose. This might seem pessimistic and that I’m overreacting, but admit it… You feel, or at least felt, the same way too.

Watching the Chiefs on Thursday night get lit up by the Raiders offense did not instill confidence in me. All season long, I’ve badmouthed the Raiders and said they had no shot at making a deep playoff run because of their lack of defense. It’s the same thing with the Chiefs. No defense, no championship. It’s that simple.

The Chiefs were fortunate to get off to a 5-0 start and looked great doing so. Now, however, the shoe has dropped, so to speak, and they have to find a way to pick it back up and make their fans forget about these two poor outings.

Now the Chiefs get over a week to sit and think about both of their bad losses and then welcome in the Broncos for Monday Night Football next week. The AFC West is wide open now and so is the entire league. What once seemed like an easy walk for the Chiefs to a playoff run is now questionable at best.

Sure, the team is still 5-2, but all the opposition has to do is score 30 points and they’ll likely win the ball game. Scoring 30 points on this horrid defense isn’t a difficult task. The blue print is out on how to beat the Kansas City Chiefs and it ain’t pretty, folks.

Let’s hope this long week off will give the coaching staff time to adjust the defense majorly because if they continue to play this poorly, winning the division could be out of the question.

Overreaction? Maybe, but there’s a reason the season doesn’t stop after seven weeks. Teams fall apart all too often and perhaps that’s what’s happening here for the Chiefs.
