Kansas Basketball: Exhibition with Mizzou Tigers on pay-per-view
By Joel Wagler
The big exhibition game between the Kansas basketball team and the Mizzou Tigers will now be available on pay-per-view.
The Kansas Jayhawks and Missouri Tigers, who haven’t played since 2012, have agreed to play Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City for charity.
No, this is isn’t the big news. The exhibition sold out quickly, and everyone in Kansas and Missouri is quite aware of the match-up.
Now, the game, billed as the Showdown for Relief, with all proceeds going to hurricane relief, will be available on pay-per-view, according to the St. Louis Dispatch.
To sign up for the pay-per-view, visit www.ShowdownforReleif.com. It will cost $40 to watch this game, according to the Dispatch, but it is for a good cause!
"All proceeds will go toward hurricane relief efforts in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands."
This exhibition is a great idea. Bill Self has been loathe to play Missouri since the Tigers left the Big 12 after the 2011-2012 season and joined the SEC. While the Jayhawks may not want to schedule a matchup with Mizzou in the regular season, both schools put aside their differences to raise money for those in need.
It’s ironic that as recently as this past July, Self seemed to be softening, according to the Kansas City Star.
"“I’m sure there will be a time where Kansas and Missouri play again. I don’t know when that time will be,” Self said, asked by a media member for his “latest” position on the KU-MU matter."
Who knew it would be only a little more than three months later!

The Kansas basketball team is relatively young and inexperienced. Only four eligible players have more than 150 minutes of court time at the college level. This type of game, even if just an exhibition, will help players get their feet wet in a great atmosphere.
The game will help Missouri, as well, as the school tries to rebuild their program under the guidance of Cuonzo Martin. Getting some minutes against top quality players will be invaluable.
This is a rivalry as good as any in the country. It won’t matter if it is for charity. The players and their coaches will want to win. It should be a fun, crazy, glorious atmosphere!
Fans will eat this up and the funds raised will help a lot of people who have so affected by the various hurricanes that have pummeled several areas these past few months.
