The Opponents

Non-conference

The chase to 14 starts with a warm-up game against Tennessee State on November 10th  before heading to Chicago to take on Kentucky. The Kansas Jayhawks have won the last two matchups against the Wildcats, in 2016 at Lawrence, and last season at Rupp Arena.

November 21st starts the Hoophall Miami Invitational at home against Texas Southern, continuing with home games against Oakland and Toledo.

The final game in the Invitational will be December 2nd in Miami, against Syracuse.

The Kansas Jayhawks go to the Sprint Center in Kansas City to play the Washington Huskies before welcoming Carlton Bragg Jr. back to Allen Fieldhouse on December 10th as the Jayhawks face the Arizona State Sundevils.

The Jayhawks final game before conference play comes against Stanford in Sacramento, California.

Stanford ruined the Jayhawks tournament run in 2014, sending them home early in the round of 32.

Conference

Kansas opens conference play on the road December 29th in Austin to take on the Longhorns. Texas is getting love from the media this offseason. However, they finished dead last in conference play last year.

Kansas travels to Fort Worth on January 6th to take on TCU. Bad things have happened down there before, and TCU keeps getting better. They are the reigning NIT champs.

Consecutive home games against Iowa State and Kansas State precede a trip to Morgantown to face the Mountaineers. West Virginia lost four seniors but return both of their leading scorers, Jevon Carter and Esa Ahmad.

The Baylor Bears come to town next. Their season will depend on how they adapt with the loss of Johnathan Motley. Someone will have to step up.

Look out for the Sooners this season. There was a reason Kansas fought so hard to bring Trae Young to Lawrence. Above all the Sooners homegrown talent should help their faithful forget about Buddy Hield. These two face off for the first time in Norman on January 23rd.

On January 27th the Jayhawks partake in the Big 12/SEC  challenge as old conference foe Texas A&M comes to town.

Two days later the Jayhawks take a trip west to Manhattan for the 2nd matchup of the year against the Wildcats. The backcourt returns, but the frontcourt could be a mess for Kansas State this season.

February 13th the Kansas Jayhawks will be in Ames, Iowa. Hilton Coliseum has been a tough draw for Bill Self. The Cyclones, however, are replacing almost all of their scoring from last year. No Monte Morris will be trouble for Iowa State.

February 26th will be senior night at Allen Fieldhouse. Devonte’ Graham, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Clay Young will be honored then after the game against the Longhorns.

March 3rd will be the final game of conference play. The Jayhawks finish with the Cowboys of Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Juwan Evans and Phil Forte are gone, so the Pokes season rests presumably on Jeffrey Carroll’s shoulders.
