The Kansas City Royals’ 2017 season is over. Could general manager Dayton Moore be joining the slew of free agents and leaving Kansas City this winter?

It was evident early on after the Kansas City Royals‘ final game of the 2017 season that changes were coming for this organization. On Monday morning, it was reported that Dave Eiland, Don Wakamatsu, and several other managers had been let go.

The biggest shocker of the day, however, was the news that general manager Dayton Moore could be leaving Kansas City as well. Before coming to Kansas City, Moore had spent time with the Atlanta Braves organization.

With Atlanta’s current general manager position vacant after the resigning of John Coppolella, the word on the street is that Dayton Moore could be the top candidate for the job, according to tweets from Bob Nightengale.

Moore has been with the Kansas City Royals since 2006 and completely turned around the franchise. He built the program back up from nothing and did so through key trades and great first round draft picks working out for the organization.

It’d obviously be brutal to see Moore leave the Royals, but could anyone blame him? The Royals are going to be in rebuild mode for a few seasons and it’d make sense for anyone to want to go to Atlanta. Their farm system is amazing and the team is on the verge of being able to make it back to the postseason.

Any time a big time position opens up in Atlanta, there’s always speculation about Moore winding up there. He had spent 11 years with the Braves organization and him leaving for the Royals job had to be a tough decision, as it could have easily not worked out as well for him as it did.

Fortunately, the Royals went to two World Series under Dayton Moore and won the whole thing in 2015. Without Moore, the Royals don’t make those two incredible runs, there’s no doubt about that.

Should Dayton Moore depart the Royals for the Braves general manager job, then it could be a rough few years for Kansas City baseball. The big name guys like Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, and Alcides Escobar are all free agents and the managing staff is already getting a makeover. We could be looking at a whole new team and a whole new front office in 2018 and fans don’t want to see that.

What’s working for the Royals is that Moore built this organization up. He knows this farm system and what the team is capable of doing. He’s also from Wichita, Kansas and grew up rooting for the Royals. Hopefully that keeps him in Kansas City.

What do you think Royals fans? Do you think Dayton Moore will leave for Atlanta?
